Rotary Bench at Ottawa City Hall – 2017 Centennial Project

This was a project initiated to celebrate our 100th year of Rotary in Ottawa. The Rotary Club of Ottawa took the lead with support from the 100th Anniversary Committee, made up of Presidents of all clubs in the City.  Club President John Lark (2016-2017), Julie Cugalj (Anniversary Projects Chair) worked with City officials to obtain approvals. Not an easy task!

The model for the Rotary Bench was inspired by a similar project in Julie’s home city of Welland, Ontario.  The same company was contracted to manufacture and install the Ottawa Bench. John Lark was on hand during installation in August, 2017.

The official unveiling of the bench was held on Monday, September 11, 2017. On hand were Rotarians Nabil Oudeh (PDG), Club President Charles Melchers,  John Lark, Julie Cugalj, Mayor Jim Watson and City Councillor, Jean Cloutier, Ward 11 (Alta Vista).  The Rotary Bench is prominently located close to the north entrance of City Hall.
A huge Thank You to Susan Scott from Councillor Jean Cloutier's office for all her help. Many thanks also to the City of Ottawa Infrastructure staff. A special Thank You to Leen DeBlieck who drove from Norwich, Ontario to deliver and help install the bench.
