Museum of Science and Tech Polio Exhibit

A special exhibit at the Museum of Science and Technology commemorates the 50th anniversary of the beginning of trials testing Salk's polio vaccine. Alberta, Saskatchewan and Halifax, N.S. participated in these trials. The following year, 1955, the Canadian government brought in legislation for universal inoculation making Canada the first nation to do so. On the perfecting of oral polio vaccine by Dr. Sabin, Rotary International took up the challenge in 1985 to mobilize volunteers to donate vaccine and carry it to many national polio campaigns. The goal is to eradicate Polio by the year 2005.
